[INLINE:1]

Dr. Fatai Kunle Salawu, born July 3, 1969 in Gombe, Gombe State, Nigeria, had his early education at Shehu Garbai Primary School (1974–1980) and Federal Government College (1980–1985) both in Maiduguri. He graduated from the University of Maiduguri in 1992 with a gold medal having won the MKO Abiola Prize for the best student in Neuro-Psychiatry. He obtained the Fellowship of both the Nigerian Medical College (2003) and the West African College of Physicians (2005). Thereafter, Dr. Salawu briefly worked at a Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri as a Consultant Neurologist before relocating to the Federal Medical Center as a Consultant Physician and Neurologist. He was elected fellow of the American College of Physicians and held a European Certificate of Epileptology. He served as the Associate Editor of the Open Access Journal of Neurology and NeuroSciences and as a reviewer for our journal, Sub-Saharan African Journal of Medicine.

As a physician/neurologist, he was well respected stemming from his extreme empathy and care for his patients and excellent relationship with their relatives. He was well respected by both his junior and senior colleagues. At the journal level, Dr. Salawu provided us with one of the best and incisive reviews of manuscripts. We dearly miss him.

Dr. Salawu left two wives and two children. May Allah admit him to his jannatul firdaus.
